The DVD rocks if your looking to do water... ;) Not so much for hard surface materials ;)

I bought it, I have yet to go through it however. There's about 80 hours of other tutorials that I have to go through before I get to it.

Thanks. I'm halfway through with Dan Ablan's LW9 Sig. Courseware (as well as his videos from his new book), then I have to figure out the order in which I'll tackle all the Kurv videos. I'm thinking I'll do the Industrial Modeling DVD, followed by both vehicle modeling DVDs, then both Viper DVDs, then the new Node Texturing DVD (using the car as the object to work on), then the UV Mapping DVD, then Nick's Intro to Lighting DVD, then the 3D Print and Illustration, then it's a toss-up between the new Water Effects DVD...the Modeling and Special Effects DVD...and one of the Tips and Tricks Series (the one with the Sci-Fi Hallway).
What do you think?
I plan on stopping periodically to produce some of my own work to toss up on Turbosquid, and to start my own portfolio. When it's all said and done, I should have a pretty good grasp on Lightwave (sans the character creation/animation department). Then I've got to make a few things to sell, in order to make the money back from all this training, before I can justify (to my wife ;)) grabbing some more. I plan on getting a few character creation DVDs, as well as Tim's character animation one. You should have your Raider DVD done by then (definately grab that one...got a birthday coming up in September.....think you'll be done by then?).
Plenty of things to do!

Well, I'm into the second disk in Ablan's series; so I'm almost done there. After that I'm going to take a break and make something to pop up on Turbosquid....then it's on to my Kurv Collection.
One thing I've realized, since I've started rendering; I'm either going to need much more than 1 GB of RAM, or FPrime.....someday both. :)

One thing I would suggest is take time after each disc and have a play at doing something else similar (i.e: after the industrial modeling make a number of different bottles), before going onto a new disc. That way, you'll find you retain the information a little better, and you can put them on TS...

Yep; that's about what I'm going to do, Rich. Some of the things I've made (like the wristwatch in Dan's video) I'll be revisiting after I do Nick's Intro to Lighting course and Jame's Intro to Nodes course.
One thing I did learn from taking a long break from Dan's training (almost 3 months) was how important it is to keep using LW on a regular basis; whether it's just modeling something from around the house, or whatever. That way I won't start to forget hotkeys, or how a particular menu system works. That's the main reason I started Dan's course over from scratch. I don't really have the time to do that again....especially if I want to get through all these other courses.
Making different bottles is a great idea to really get used to alot of the tools, so it becomes a bit of second nature. In addition to the usual sports drink bottle; I'd like to try a Starbuck's Frappacino bottle...to try and get that coffee coloring just right. I've already learned more about high-poly modeling than I ever knew. I've never textured in the modeling program before; I've always had to make UV maps and texture in Paint Shop Pro before (game objects). I used PSP for the first game we ever made (lots of helicopters and planes and boats to blow up :)), then started getting into 3D.
I've started a small thread on my Lightwave work at our forums (before I make the official review on his course at the NewTek forums):
http://www.ozarkgames.com/smf/index.php?topic=1269.0
I plan on making a full Review and Results thread in a week or so, when I finish his courses (as I said, at NewTek). I also plan on doing the same thing with each Kurv DVD I finish. I'll list my previous experience and computer specs with each one.
If you check out that thread be sure to grab the 2 free games we made for you to blow off time. :)

Ow, yeah, lol.. I asked Larry Shultz at one point if he would do this.. YES..
Well I just ordered it. I have worked with water before but each water scene can be done other ways and it will be nice to see some other ways to add to my batman belt. ow yeah. hehehe
Are the videos supposed to have sound or am i just using the wrong player. I see that the file sizes are pretty small but I just wanna verify.

You didn't buy our direct link connection.... this device links your computer directly to your head :p.
1st, make sure you have the sound on.... hey, it's happened
Make sure you have the techsmith screen codec, we have it available for download here - http://www.kurvstudios.com/customer_service.php
Let me know if this helps okay...

I do have sound on, I Tried playing the videos in everything i got. (VLC,DivX, Power DvD, Winamp, Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player) I then downloaded the codec and installed and i have no idea where it installs too, but I tried all my players again. No dice, don't suppose this only works in quicktime then? if so do you know were I may get it? I borrowed the DvD's from my school btw if that means anything.
Ok Nvm I figured it out, i downloaded something called QuickTime Alternative and now it works just fine. Thanks for your time.:)
