I just wanted to chime in on the DVD. Overall I think is was very good. I think one of Glenn's strength is actually is execution of his techniques. The weakest part of your DVDs so far including the zbrush was going thru the menu. I dont think you enjoyed that part at all, neither did I. Until you we actually started modeling did things start to set in. then I would find the specific video to get a more indepth overview of the feature. Its kind of a complement because in some trainings when the teacher starts modeling I usually get lost at some point but with you it seems that you take ur time and everything is clear. I kinda wished we did a couple of more projects to explore some of the other possibiliies of silo, maybe hard surface modeling etc. but the free tutorials that you offered on the website kinda made up for that.

Also, if you would comment on some tips on mirroring it would be great. I think I had the most problems with Istance mirroring, mirroring overall. it was a paint and maybe you should have paid more attention to that topic but who knows maybe the next version will have a much better implementation of the tool. Coming from lightwave the mirror tool is inferior.

So here is my review.

Content = 8
Instruction = 8
Technique = 10
Video Quality = 9
Sound = 6

Overall = 8.5

By the way I dont think it would have been fun modeling this in lightwave. Silo so free, reminds me of zbrush. Im sure if you offer more material, advanced modeling techniques in silo I'd buy it and so will many others.
Here is my version of the Creature. Even though it is not exact, I wanted to play with it some more.

Thank you Glenn and Kurv for getting this material out there.

Others, what are u waiting for buy it, tell your friends, its great training!

Hi Ano,

thanks for the feedback, some excelent comments in there that will help me improve for next time.

I come from a Lightwave background and I find SILO's Mirror/Instance to be awesome. It is all in the settings to be honest and I'll do a freebie video to show how I set my moels up using an instance. Very much like Connect POly Shape for Maya actually but the Seam preserve is a big help.

I agree about the rating for sound.

It is very difficult to decide how to pitch a training DVD. Part of the reason I do so much recording is so that everyone feels they can get something out of it. If I produced a dvd with three hours of describing a set of menus then it would be a complete flop. If I don't describe all the boring menu bits I let down new users, catch 22. It's a question of balance and I must admit I don't find the menu descriptions the most exciting bit of recording a DVD.

once again thanks,

Glen

Thanks Glenn,

I was merely pointing out that I felt you were really good at explaining things while you were modeling that it didnt do justice to the first part is all. I think a good way of teaching would be to maybe go to another layer, explain the concept in a simpler form and then go back to the original layer and continue modeling. that method reemphasizes the principle and I am less prone to forget, or it sticks better in my mind because I will always remember the simple explanations first before applying it to a much more complicated principle. I hope this is not the end or your training material though!

Question, I am thinking of modeling a Mech type of character, would Silo be suitable for this or would you recommend Lightwave instead?

By the way, while I was learning zbrush, I found sculpting human anatomy easier to start there( from your tuts) than bringing in a mesh from lightwave. and I had wondered if I could then bring the model into Lightwave and refine the structure, but I guess this would not be efficient. But after the head tutorial you did using the topology brush, it makes it totally possible to start in zbrush first.

I enjoyed your zbrush training and learned more about the sculpting aspect of the program more than i did watching both the gnomon dvds, and that says a lot. anyways keep up the good work mate!

Does anyone know where the viewport images for the first project can be found. Preety hard to follow along with the tutorial without them. Thought they would be included on the DVD, but I can't seem to find them.
Thanks
